Type OF mAriNe PumPS

Today i want to tell about types of marine pump because pump is one of the very important component in a vessel. A pump is a device used to move fluids, such as liquids or slurries, or gases. A pump displaces a volume by physical or mechanical action. Here are the example of pumps that used in a vessel:

Bilge pump - A pump to remove water that collects in the bottom of a ship.

Fresh water pump - Provide a constant flow from tank to faucet.

Fuel pump - A pump for drawing fuel from a storage tank and delivering it to an
engine or furnace.

Drill water pump - Transferring liquids such as fresh water, sea water, dilute
organic solvents, motor oil, heating oil, insecticides and
liquid fertilizers.

Oil transfer pump - The pump can be used to remove old oil from the engine, then
with the integral reversing switch, the flow direction can be
changed to pump a measured amount of new oil back into the
engine.

Circulating pump - A circulator pumis a specific type of pump used to ciculate
gases, liquids slurries in a closed circuit. They are commonly
found circulatingwater in a hydronic heating or cooling system.

Centrifugal pump - Centrifugal pump can deliver fresh water and seawater. The
characteristics can be used in various shippings. The pumps can
be used as cooling freshwater, cooling seawater, seawater
services, blige ballast, fire and general services.

It is Jasa Merin (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd intention and policy to operate safe and reliable ships. To this end we have established a Safety inspection program to monitor the safety readiness of the vessels. It is the province of the maintenance department to make the necessary repairs and to maintain safety and other equipment aboard the vessels. The maintenance department is charged with insuring the reliability of the ship’s and the machinery. To do this we employ a combination of planned and predictive maintenance techniques. On the planned maintenance programs:

DRYDOCKINGS - JMM vessels are drydocked every two and half years, thus it is called a biennial drydocking. In the event that a vessel is drydocked in an emergency its next drydocking will be scheduled two and half years after that emergency drydocking.

ENGINE MAINTENANCE - All work recommended by the manufacturer to be done on the prime movers is also planned maintenance. The time basis for this work is generally engine operating hours. In the event that the machinery is idle for long periods of time, real time can become a limiting factor for lube oil and filters also. Engine operating hours are also used to determine engine overhauls. Engine overhaul intervals, tune up intervals, top overhaul intervals, are all listed in the manufacturer’s maintenance recommendations.

PAINT WORK - Vessel deck departments are charged with maintaining the vessels paint work. The Chief Mate can schedule and allocate this work in any way that he wishes so long as a good appearance is maintained.

GENERAL LUBRICATION - This includes greasing of rudders and deck machinery (i.e. anchor windlasses and towing winches). This type of greasing is normally done on a real time basis once a month or once a week for instance.

Predictive maintenance techniques that we employ include:

LUBE OIL ANALYSIS - Lube oil analysis is the back bone of our predictive maintenance system. It supplies us with information regarding where metals, etc. in the lube oil of our operating prime movers and gear boxes. Lube oil analysis has gone into great depth in another section of this manual.

VESSEL INSPECTION - Vessel inspection by based personnel and safety department vessel inspections provide us with invaluable information regarding vessel condition. This information allows us to better plan for drydockings and other maintenance type intervals.

ENGINE INSPECTION - Sometimes called trend analysis the close inspection of a diesel engine reveals what stage the engine is in its useful life. Knowing all the vital signs of a diesel engine allows us to better plan for maintenance intervals.

FEED-BACK AND SUGGESTIONS - Perhaps one of the most valuable sources of information for planning maintenance and predicting maintenance is the feed-back and suggestions that we receive from the field. This includes all the information given to us by vessel engineers, vessel deck officers because these individuals are close to the problem, they are most likely to see the best solution to the problem.

When there is a failure in the maintenance area or in the event that there is human failure, a repair is necessary. The large repairs are normally supervised by based repair supervisors or superintendents. Under normal conditions, however, vessel engineers undertake to repair most of what goes wrong on the vessel.

The inlet manifold is a passage connects the aftercooler to the inlet ports in the cylinder head. The camshaft controls the movement of the valve system components. Clean inlet air from air cleaner and from silencer is pulled through air inlet (4) into turbocharger compressor by turbocharger compressor wheel (5). The rotation of turbocharger compressor wheel causes the air to compress. The rotation of the turbocharger compressor wheel then forces the air through an elbow to the aftercooler (2). The aftercooler lowers the temperature of the compressed air before the air goes into air plenum and the inlet chambers i cylinder head. Air flow from inlet chambers into the cylinders is controlled by inlet valves.

LauNCHinG oF neW flEeT JM SePOi

tHe nEW pHasE BeGin..........

Salam 1 Malaysia to all bloggers..!!!
Currently diz week I am going to entering the fifth week of industry training.
Briefing session for this week was given by En.Nizam (Health and Safety Environment Coordinator) HSE. In his briefing , En.Nizam who also ex-Yaman Petronas Executive explain why it is important for us to obey and follow the safety rules make by HSE department to avoid any danger, hazardess and harm that happen suddenly without warning. It become more serious with the news that there is oil rig explode at gulf of mexico where it is one of the largest oil rig in the world.
To summarize, my activity for diz week is more on to take role of Puan Azi (Technical Clerk) where she take leave for 3 weeks because she will married and going to honeymoon. So my task is to update the data from the vessels, searching for material that request by the vessel from ISSA (International Ship Suppliers and Service Association). After that I’ll key-in the request in the IPR (Internal Purchasing Request) and after approval from En. Nazir (Technical Director) the request can be purchase by Perchasing Department and the PO (Purchase Order) will given. After the process done the material will send to our warehouse at KSB (Kemaman Supply Base) before given to the vessels.
Other than that, I also must checking the Defect Report and certificate vessel for JM Gagah and JM Murni. Then I need to prepared the stationary material for JM Hadhari like ballpen, eraser, ruler master daily log and others.
Okies, its ol for now. C u later…….

DAY-21 ----I> DAY-28
